Strand 2: Conceptualising a Whole Systems Approach
Frameworks and conceptual tools for complex systems thinking
About This Strand
This strand explores how to conceptualise and represent whole systems. We examine the theoretical frameworks, models, and conceptual tools — including systems maps, feedback loops, and causal loop diagrams — that help us understand complexity in public health contexts.
The full lecture has been divided into seven short segments of approximately five minutes each. Each segment ends with a knowledge check to consolidate your understanding.
Segments
| Segment | Title | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1 | What are Systems? | ~9 min |
| Part 2 | System Change | ~7 min |
| Part 3 | Systems Thinking | ~5 min |
| Part 4 | Phase One and Phase Two | ~7 min |
| Part 5 | Phase Three | ~4 min |
| Part 6 | Phase Four | ~4 min |
| Part 7 | Phase Five and Six | ~4 min |
Tip
Work through the segments in order — each builds on the previous one. You can return to individual segments for revision at any time.
